LVT-PSU CAN-controllable Power Supply

The LVT-PSU is a powerful desktop power supply unit for providing power to systems requiring a compact, rugged, controllable power source, with the ability to be controlled or monitored via CAN.

Who is it for?

Primarily designed for automotive testing and development applications, this unit supports control from the front panel or remote control via CAN. This makes it suitable for unattended test applications such as hardware-in-the-loop, test automation and real-time control systems.


The unit has also been designed to complement our LVTGO-VBS vehicle battery simulator range. When the two systems are used together, this can significantly improve the range of tests that can be performed without the likelihood of a power protection trip. It can also reduce the wasted power dramatically.

The output stage can be current limited and also current limits if excessive power is dissipated, or if an excessive temperature occurs internally. This helps protect not only the unit, but the user and the device under test from damage due to incorrect connection or abuse.

The status of the system is reported by front displays and this information is also made available via the CAN Interface when used, for example on the GUI.

What’s in the box…

  • Currently 15V, 20V and 30V nominal voltage ranges are available with up to 3KW output – please enquire if you require other voltages or power ratings.
  • Robust terminals with safety covers are employed, suitable for heavy-duty, high current cables.
  • Voltage set points are available to accommodate common automotive applications.
  • Control is available via front panel dials, graphical user interface (GUI), or CAN.
  • Selectable remote sense connections are also available, if required.

Enhancing robustness testing 

To reduce power in the output stage of the LVTGO, LVT-PSU aims to set the output voltage to as low as possible, while being as high as is necessary for the upcoming output demand. The low voltage drop in the output stage then essentially reduces the output stage power dissipation dramatically.

The LVT DSP main control board calculates the PSU demand ahead of time to take account of the PSU response time so that any positive steps are catered for in time for the output demand.

Intuitive interface

The LVT-PSU GUI interface comprises part of the main LVTest GUI application but is also available as a standalone application for those not using the LVTGO series.

From the interface, tasks that can be achieved include:

  • Voltage control
  • Current limit control
  • Voltage readback monitoring
  • Main output control
  • Control State monitoring
  • Mode control

The interface has been created using our real-time systems interface creation software, VISUALCONNX.
