Whether you need more resources, additional skills or simply a reduction in project risk, our electronic product design expertise helps to bring your idea to market.
We have a wealth of experience throughout the embedded electronics lifecycle, including analogue and digital circuit design, firmware & software design, PCB layout, microcontroller and FPGA integration, real time systems and small to mid-size manufacturing runs.
We’ve been around for over 25 years, and during this time we’ve helped hundreds of our customers to develop embedded systems for a range of applications demanding fast response rates, low power drain, high levels of accuracy or a combination of these.
We are happy to offer expert consultants or manage entire projects – meaning you can concentrate on meeting your overall brief, on time and to budget. To find out how we can implement your ideas, get in touch today.
As an expert in the design, build, test and manufacture of embedded systems, we are well-placed to help you assess the feasibility of, specify and project manage any custom electronics project.
We offer feasibility studies to help you build a solid business case for your product, focusing on topics such as product functionality, market niche, pricing, support, upgrade and component obsolescence.
Later, we help specify your system, taking into account its physical properties, electrical, mechanical and environmental requirements, user interface, compliance and more.
Our expertise includes, but is not limited to:
System analysis & specification
Project management
Design for manufacture
Design for total project cost (development versus manufacturing)
This stage begins with the drawing up of a hardware specification to match system requirements. Where sufficiently complex, simulation techniques are used to anticipate system behaviour.
Once schematics have been drawn up, PCB design takes place using a suitable EDA platform, enclosure design proceeds using CAD software and any other mechanical design tasks are resolved. add2’s network of trusted suppliers are then used to produce a system prototype, or simpler units hand-built using our in-house prototype build facilities.
The prototype system then undergoes testing according to add2’s strict quality management and any relevant industry standards. All PCB layout files are finalised alongside bills of materials for board population.
Our expertise includes, but is not limited to:
Low noise analogue and digital design
PCB schematic and layout generation
MCAD 3D enclosure design & customisation
Microcontroller & programmable logic design
We can produce embedded firmware for a range of processor families and operating environments, ranging from bare metal to real time operating systems. If required, the hardware development and firmware development stages of your project can proceed in parallel.
We are able to develop firmware to easily handle a wide range of performance requirements, from real time systems with microsecond response times to wearable tech with strict power usage needs.
With our experience using a range of communications technologies we can help you to develop IoT devices for industry, science, the connected home and more.
Our expertise includes, but is not limited to:
Custom microcontroller support for families such as ARM, NXP, IR, TI, Intel, ST Micro, PIC and more
Communications technologies such as Wi-Fi, BLE, Ethernet, EtherCAT, GSM, BroadR Reach
High-speed serialised buses
Remote change order management
We can also help you to develop PC software for interfacing, visualisation and control. For example, this includes custom GUIs, data acquisition and data analysis platforms.
Our engineering consultants are able to work alongside your team on-site or remotely, allowing you to increase and decrease resources in line with demand.
Since our consultants are permanently employed by add2, they are free to concentrate on the job at hand, rather than potential future projects. Furthermore, we’ll be available throughout the lifetime of your project and beyond, helping you to provide support and manage change.
Our expertise includes, but is not limited to:
MATLAB Simulink®, including modelling and microcontroller support
Software development in .NET, C, C#, C++, Visual Basic (including VB6), Delphi
Scripting using PHP, JavaScript, Python, Django, Jscript, VBScript
Custom embedded API development
Finally, your designed product transforms into a tangible production run. PCBs are created and populated with the specified layering, component mounting and soldering techniques, ready for final assembly at our central laboratory.
If your product already exists, we can take existing layout files, schematics or physical samples and reduce your manufacturing costs through alternate components, board layouts and our network of trusted manufacturers across the globe.
Should you require a production test system, our experience in testing complex systems of systems allows us to reach the highest standards of quality control and change management.
Our expertise includes, but is not limited to:
PCB layering, assembly & production testing
Board population via reflow and hand soldering
Production-ready files, such as Gerbers, BOMs & documentation
Packaging, branding and fulfilment
